The great intern search

Sadly, we’re losing our awesome intern Helen (thanks for all your help!) so we’re in the market for a new one!

Ideally you are:
– totally into modern weddings!
– know your way around the wedding and design blog scene
– great with Photoshop, inDesign and WordPress (maybe even have your own blog?)
– creative with layouts
– strong design aesthetic
– reliable and a self-starter

You’ll be working on:
– Laying out and coding posts
– Research for upcoming posts and gallery additions
– Organizing potential upcoming events

You’ll be working remotely so we will stay in email contact. The internship will only take about 10 hours a week, maybe a little more, maybe a little less depending on whats on the schedule for that week.  If you’re NYC based, you’ll get to come along for fun networking events!  Great way to get to know influential people in the industry.

Please email you resume, any work samples, and why you think you’d be a great fit for Brooklyn Bride team to brooklynbride [at]

Submissions I look for: a primer

The other day I took part in a Smugmug session for photographers in Williamsburg with the insanely talented Rebecca Crumley (The Knot), Jackie Weppner (Merci New York) and Shira Savada (MSW) to discuss getting published in blogs and mags and all that good stuff.  After 4 years (almost!) of blogging, I think I’ve finally gotten to where I know what I want to see and post, so I thought I’d share it with you too.

True story: When I first came up with the name Brooklyn Bride, I never in a million years thought that anyone other than my immediate family would be reading it, and at the time, I myself was a Brooklyn bride, so it just fit.  In hindsight, it probably wasn’t the best name since to this day, people think that I only post about Brooklyn weddings, which isn’t the case at all.  I feel like its really a Brooklyn “state of mind” that I’m looking for, and that can be had anywhere!  You dont necessarily care about trends, you’re artsy and take your inspiration from the design world, you’ve got an edge and your wedding shows it!

What I’m really looking for are modern weddings….simple, architecturally inspired, bright colors, lots of white, unique details, that sort of thing.  I am NOT looking for vintage or Anthropologie-inspired weddings!  Those weddings are totally beautiful and special in their own right, but there are so many other blogs that fit that aesthetic, and I’d rather stick with the modern ones, which means I have to turn away the bulk of weddings I receive because they are just not the right fit.  Sad but true…but this is the year where I’m going to really buckle down and stay committed to my modern roots.

So to sum it up:

1. No, the wedding or e-shoot does NOT have to be shot in Brooklyn.

2. Yes, I LOVE modern weddings and want to see more of them!  If you’re unsure what that looks like, refer to this wedding, its one of my absolute favorites and what I’m constantly searching for.

3. If you can describe the wedding as “vintage” or “anthropologie-inspired”, chances are, its not going to be a fit.

If you’ve got a wedding or eshoot you think fits, check out my submission requirements and send away!

We’re shiny and new!

Welcome to Brooklyn Bride’s new look!  Its been a year in the making, but its finally here, and I couldn’t be happier!  In addition to a facelift, we’ve enlarged image sizes and added a gallery feature, so its now infinitely easier to search through your favorite posts topically.  The galleries are still a work in progress, but they’ll gradually get filled up as the weeks go by, with current AND new images you haven’t seen on the blog before…its all in an effort to make Brooklyn Bride your go-to place for modern inspiration.  So take a look around, and please let me know if there are any glitches you notice.  Hope you enjoy!

Huge thanks to Joy Cho of Oh Joy! for the new design, and to Jonathan Poole who has been patiently worked with me on the coding!

[Photogs, if you’ve got some amazing modern wedding content you want included in the galleries, contact me!]
