We’ve got a new look!

Welcome back from the long holiday weekend!  In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve got a new look that soft-launched on Friday.  If you’re reading through Blog’Lovin or Feedly, pop over to check it out.  There’s still lots to do on the back end with re-tagging images, getting the Shop up and running, reformatting vendor listings to the new template, but after over a year of work, we had to get it up.  So take a look around, and please let us know if anything is running wonky…I’m sure there are some kinks hiding out in the woodwork!  Enjoy, and let us know what you think!

Huge thanks to Breanna Rose of Rowan Made who designed the new look for the site, and Zoe Rooney and Jonathan Poole for their coding expertise.

reBar closure

After being offline in a sense for most of the day, I was shocked to see the news of reBar’s abrupt closing, leaving many couples stranded without a venue for their weddings this weekend and throughout the year.  Gothamist broke the news today, citing that employees were blindsided as well with a brief text saying that the space was closed and bankrupt, and for employee’s to not enter the premises.

I don’t know much about the situation other than what I’ve read, but its heartbreaking to think that all these couples and employees are left scrambling (the employees were supposed to be paid today!).  reBar had just started advertising with Brooklyn Bride, but in light of the circumstances, I’ll be pulling their ad and vendor listing.  So many venues and vendors in the area are pulling together to aid the couples left in a lurch, so in an effort to help, I’ll be listing as many as I can find here.  If you’re a vendor I missed, leave a comment below with your info.

Brooklyn Winery: events@bkwinery.com or call them at 347-889-7100

Tuffet: contact Alicia at contact@tuffetnyc.com  – 30% off buy-out rates for affected couples

3 West Club: veronica@3westclub.com

Fornino at Pier 6: denise@fornino.com

The Counting Room: info@countingroom.com or at 917-519-4181

The Green Building & 501 Unionbrooke@thegreenbuildingnyc.com or at 718.522.3363

Powerhouse Arena: Craig@POWERHOUSEArena.com, or 718-666-3049

home/made brooklyn: info@homemadebklyn.com

Galapagos Art Space: 718-222-8500

Deity: info@deitynyc.com

Verbotten: darrin@verbotennewyork.com or at 347.223.4732

Stanton Social: Anthony@thestantonsocial.com  20% off discount for reBar victims

The Royal Palms Shufflboard Club: Party@royalpalmsshuffle.com

There’s also an IndieGogo campaign started to help cover the money lost in deposits to reBar that will be distributed to couples.  To contribute, head over here.  There’s also a funding site setup to help the employees of reBar who are left unpaid.  To contribute to that, head over here.

7 years

Funny how time goes by when you least expect it.  Today marks 7 years of Brooklyn Bride, and when looking back to my first post, I realized I had started it after 7 months of being engaged.  I never thought anyone other than my mother and close friends would ever see it, but 7 years later, its offered up so many new friends and opportunities that I can’t imagine life without it.  Thanks for sticking around all these years, and stay tuned for a new look and exciting news in the coming weeks!

Brooklyn Wedding Expo

Last year The Atlantic Avenue BID hosted their first ever wedding expo, and this year they are continuing on its success with a second time around on Sunday, April 13th from 12-5pm.  This time, all the vendors will be housed at Deity Event Space, and they’ve invited some talent from outside Atlantic Ave.  If any of you have walked the main drag, you know about all the great shops, restaurants and businesses that abound, and may have even noticed how many of them are wedding related, so this will be your chance to see them all under one roof.  With over 20 vendors ranging from registries to cakes, hair salons to parfumers, you’ll have your wedding figured out in a snap.  There will also be a fashion show covering dresses for the bride & bridesmaids, and also mens formal wear.  There will also be plenty of food, drink, and music, so get your tickets quick!  All information on the vendors participating can be found on their website.
