The Martha Stewart calla cake has always been my favorite and what I envisioned my wedding cake to be. Unfortunately, its a logistical nightmare! Those clear columns separating the layers were custom and cost upwards of $60, which to me, just isn’t worth the cost for an otherwise free cake [Abigail Kirsch has their own baker deal with the cakes]. Sooo, it looks like we’ll be taking inspiration from the master, April Reed, and go with something subtle yet beautiful. We’ll probably end up doing white layers with green ribbon and yellow flowers, but who knows, that could all change in a week.

These sell fast, but usually you can find the cutest set of vintage mushroom decorations from Small Stump that would be PERFECT for my friend Christina’s wedding…I can see them all over her cake, or decorating little homemade cupcakes….[I was lucky enough to snag a bag for myself when they were still available!]

I made it to the Wedding event last night, and even though it was filled to the brim and the gift bags were gone [arg!!], I had a wonderful time and got to meet up with some lovely ladies. April Reed of April Reed Cakes, Jessy from Fleurs NYC, and Xochitl and Mayra of Always a Bridesmaid, and Christina from Brideboard…so great to finally meet all of you! Some of my favorite images are above.
