City Hall wedding: Kelsey + Eddie

city hall elopement

What a fun weekend!  Kelsey & Eddie split up their nuptials into 2 days…getting married at City Hall with just their closest family on a Friday, then having a a party the next day with extended family and friends at Rockwood Music Hall.  I love when couples do things at their own pace, in their own way!

From the photographer:
Over and over again I am impressed with couples doing their wedding the way they want to. It is such an important day and so often we get bogged down by expectations as opposed to knowing ourselves and building our day around just that. Kelsey and Eddie split their wedding up into two lovely days in December. They invited just their immediate family and myself to the civil clerk’s office on Friday to have their civil ceremony. There we all experienced the cultural phenomenon that is the Manhattan Civil Clerk’s Office. There were brides everywhere you looked, tons of photographers, pregnant bellies, flowers, and so much celebration. It was awesome.  Kelsey and Eddie got married in a bright pink room with only their closest family members present. Afterward we ventured around the area and to the Brooklyn Bridge where everyone who walked by shouted something. We got “Congrats!” “You look beautiful!” and our mutual favorite “Is this real, is this a real wedding, or are you models?!” I know every couple wants to hear that they look like models on their wedding day, which these two totally did.  Afterward the couple made time for an In Bed Session, which is a series I have been working on in the last few months. We went to The Ludlow Hotel and they jumped on the bed in excitement of being able to now call each other husband and wife. They cuddled, kissed, and then we said farewell for the night.  On Saturday we all got dressed up again to celebrate with their extended family and friends at Rockwood Music Hall, where Eddie works. They had live music, amazing food, tons of dancing, and Eddie even played a song he wrote for Kelsey. It was a perfect weekend celebration for K & E and NYC gave the perfect backdrop.

Real wedding: Laura + Jordan

What better way to do a wedding than with a pink dress and a simple City Hall ceremony?  Top it off with a rooftop dinner at the NoMad Hotel with friends and family (who came all the way from Australia no less!), and its pretty perfect to me.

“Ricardo and I wanted to spend our wedding day celebrating with our close friends, and visiting places that were special and meaningful to us.  We also wanted to keep the celebration rolling after our early afternoon ceremony into the evening. We had an intimate, heartwarming ceremony with a handful of our friends at the iconic City Hall in Manhattan.

We live in Brooklyn, had our first few dates there, and wanted to celebrate half of the day at locations where our relationship began.  After the ceremony, we headed to Fort Greene and visited spots like where we had our first kiss and our favorite restaurants. Putnam’s Clinton Hill pub was a local haunt of mine and I had invited Ricardo there on our second date. It was a great place to relax with our friends before the party, eat a few bites and of course share some celebratory drinks.

Later in the evening, we hosted a small reception for 40 people in Williamsburg at the Nighthawk Cinema Café. The expert bartender poured specialty cocktails for our guests.  Everyone enjoyed great music and delicious appetizers. The intimate room allowed us to talk and laugh with our friends.

It was a slightly overcast cloudy day, but the lighting allowed our photographer, Miho to capture so many wonderful moments. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding day.”
