Cool cakes series: ombre studs

blue green ombre studded wedding cake

This month’s modern wedding cake by Nine Cakes was inspired by this ombre studded bag DIY….its amazing how nicely it translated into fondant right?  I love how its not a super sweet, girly looking wedding cake…the studs give it a distinct bad-ass look, but its still fun and playful.

Cool cake series: Bubble letters!

modern colorful wedding cake

Its hard to not be inspired by everything you see on Pinterest….from fonts to fashion, or rugs to recipes, its kinda endless.  With all the images I’ve collected, I’ve been dying to see some of them translated into weddings, and cakes were the first piece I wanted to tackle.  In my opinion, its so essential to get inspiration from outside the wedding world…there are so many things happening in design elsewhere that would work perfectly for weddings!  I asked the lovely Betsy of Nine Cakes if she’d be interested and was so happy when she said she’d take it on, so this week we’ll start with the first cake she came up with, shot by the equally fabulous Jainé of Brklyn View Photography.  For this one, I was really inspired by the lettering on this poster, and Betsy and her team really make it come to life in the most fun way, right down to the HANDMADE SPRINKLES.  Let that soak in a minute….

Real wedding: Katherine + Johnny

Katherine + Johnny in my mind had the quintessential Brooklyn wedding…a gorgeous ceremony under the Brooklyn Bride, reception at a fabulous eatery, and lots of wonderfully handmade details!  I am DYING over her gorgeous dress and veil, made by her talented friend Bobby!

Johnny and I were married on June 12 in our beloved Brooklyn. We wanted to have a low-key wedding and a great party to celebrate with our family and friends. We planned everything ourselves, using internet resources like this one for inspiration. It took a lot of work and some networking skills (thanks friends and family!) but we think we achieved our goal of an intimate, personal wedding with fun details that did not totally break the bank.

We had such a wonderful time at our wedding. We felt lucky that we were able to plan an event that felt right for us. It truly is one of the most amazing days of your life. To all the future brides out there good luck and have fun!
