Cool cake series: geometric

yellow & pink geometric cake

This months cool cake by Nine Cakes was inspired by this rug from Studio Joa Herrenknecht.  I had seen it a while back on Pinterest and instantly knew it would make a great wedding inspiration.  Its an easy way to dress up an otherwise plain white cake, and it can even spill onto other desserts on the table.

Turn your food into cake

foods-into-cake

I’ve been spotting some of my favorite foods posing as wedding cakes lately. Who doesn’t want a donut tower?! The jist is simple: take your favorite food, stack it on top of each other and boom, you’ve got a cake. For those averse to baking (ahem, me!), it’s the perfect solution.

  1. Croquembouche is a traditional French wedding cake make of pastry balls and caramel. This one is the easy version: donut holes!
  2. Rice Krispy cake. All about my childhood favorite.
  3. Macaron cake. Build them in different shades to add to the decor of your wedding.
  4. Donut cake tower.Try making them in different flavors so your guests can experiment.

Cool cake series: Donna Wilson inspired

donna wilson inspired wedding cake

I probably say this every time, but this is definitely one of my favorite cakes that Betsy of Nine Cakes made for this series.  Donna Wilson has long been an inspiration for me in the design world, with her kooky knit creatures and home & fashion accessories, but I’ve never seen it worked into weddings so it was definitely something I wanted to tackle.  So many details for the cake were taken from a multitude of Donna Wilson projects to create this little masterpiece, and I couldn’t be more in love with it.  Just look at that cake topper!!
