The New Modern: Alexander McQueen Inspired

Early one morning  I was able to slip out and head over to the Metropolitan Museum of Art  to catch “Savage Beauty” the jaw droppingly gorgeous  exhibition by fashion designer Alexander McQueen. It’s so tragic the world has lost such a talent. But thankfully we have his work to constantly be inspired by. And inspired I was!  Just in time for the closing of this ground breaking exhibition here is a modern tablescape translation.  I hope you enjoy it. – Denise

Silken metallic linens, reflective glass, rich jewel tones, peasant feathers and tartan were the elements I wanted to combine. I’ve always wanted to design a centerpiece that had no vase but rather “floated” on a pedestal. Here was my opportunity. McQueen used a hologram of Kate Moss in one of his runway shows (amazing!). In reference to this illusion I used smoked  mirrored votives that made the candlelight look like it went on forever. Of course this table could have been over the top but I wanted to keep it realistic and of course clean and modern.

To show couples how they can keep cost down we decided to go on Etsy and choose DIY Printable paper products in a simple modern calligraphy font. Once we approved final proof from Pomp Designs, she then emailed us a high-resolution PDF for each piece with crop marks that was ready for printing.  Adrienne at Bespoke Affairs then printed all of the items on her home computer using a nice textured card stock. To elevate the DIY aspect of the paper products Adrienne mounted the items on Tartan print paper ala McQueen. Thank you to all our vendors!!
