Sunrise Beach Elopement

This couple had to reschedule their big wedding due to COVID. Instead of waiting, they decided to do a sunrise elopement at our local beach on the 4th of July and brought Apollo Fields to capture it!

How did you meet?

At a bar in Denver right after we both moved there by way of tinder.

What is your proposal story?

We were back east for Thanksgiving with my family (T.) That next day, Matthew and my sister told me they wanted to grab a glass of wine before dinner with my parents and my grandma.   We went back to a spot we had been a few times over the years. The sun was setting and we were by the water in New York, on the harbor right by the boardwalk just a short drive away from my parents house. We walked over to take pictures because the whole area was lit up for the holidays and he knows I can’t pass up a good photo opp. We were repositioning for a different picture in a different spot and then Matt turned to face me and reached into his pocket and then, if it weren’t for my sister getting it on video, I would have blacked out the rest from pure excitement! It was perfect and he even got the one detail he knew I’d want l — to have it captured on camera.

Tell us about your attire choices.

We decided to plan our elopement 2 months before the date last year end nothing was open (because 2020) so I found the perfect BHLDN dress on sale called “Denver” so it was meant to be!   He found his jacket and pants from Suit Supply online and I discovered a fun site, Dazi, for the tie + pocket square that he picked out.

What were your favorite parts of the day? (memories and stories)

Because we had to postpone our original wedding fall 2020 wedding to fall 2021, we decided to elope because we didn’t want to wait. We talked about eloping on the original date, and he said why wait till then? So I said how about 4th of July? So now we get to share our anniversary with my grandparents and our favorite holiday is now our favorite day for two reasons! It was just the two of us, our amazing photographer, Heather, and our officiant and it was a pure adrenaline rush and absolutely perfect. Even though it wasn’t how we planned, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

1. (Most important) Don’t lose sight of why you’re getting married! It’s a stressful, high pressure, overwhelming process to plan your wedding, but don’t let yourself get bogged down with those feelings and remind yourself of the WHY. Because it’s all that really matters.   2. If you have a wedding with guests, take 10 minutes right after your ceremony just the two of you alone together to bask in the celebration of the day! It’s the only alone time you’ll have together all day.
