photo favorites: Mimi Palmer

Mimi Palmer from Enjoy: the blog:

There is a story behind why I chose this photo. You see, my husband has a rule: no pictures of us around the house. He is very funny about this and has made this request every time I so much as framed a 4×6 vacation photo and placed it on a shelf. Then, on our first anniversary, he presented me with this image, blown up, professionally matted and framed to be hung in our bedroom. With tears in his eyes he told me that this was his favorite picture because when he sees it he instantly remembers how amazing that day was.
This is our favorite picture for a few reasons (in addition to the one above):
1. it is timeless – This picture could have easily been taken 5, 10, or even 20 years ago. The focus is not on the style of our wedding, the colors we used, or my gown; the image instead captures a real and true moment between us that could never feel dated or trendy. {So often I see a photo and think, “Oh, they must have gotten married in the 90s”. Maybe I am just naive, but I don’t feel this photo dates itself in such a way.I guess I’ll find out in 10 years!}
2. the photo was not staged – we were exhausted and hot (116 degrees that day) and we just had to sit down for a moment after the ceremony
3. this image truly captures the spirit of The Parker (the hotel where we were married) in a subtle way (subtlety is not a strong point of The Parker!)
4. we are not looking at the camera (too caught up in the moment)
