I met Lia few weeks ago at a Lion in the Sun event I was speaking at, and she told me about this fabulous engagement shoot she had just done with the ladies of Simply Bloom Photo…it was pretty funny because just a few days earlier, the photographers had emailed me asking for some cool spots to check out when they were in town. Now that I’ve seen the pics, they’re even better than I could have imagined, so here they are! Lia talked a little bit about the inspiration and where that FABULOUS dress came from!
The pink dress I am wearing I actually bought at a cheap store on Broadway for $25. I saw it on a rack and it looked kind of ridiculous next to jeans and sweaters but I immediately had a vision of this dress on the bridge and saw the potential for something amazing. I
went to the fashion district and bought different shades of pink tulle and had a seamstress add it underneath the dress.
Beginning 10 days before the shoot I was checking the weather forecast for the day of the shoot religiously and watched as the chance of showers forecast at the beginning of the week turned into heavy rain and T-storms and I was more than a little concerned that my shoot in Brownstone Brooklyn, in Prospect Park and on the Brooklyn Bridge would
be rained-out. Despite my friends and family telling me I needed a plan B, I just crossed my fingers and bought large umbrellas. It turns out the rain was the best thing that could have happened for the shoot because the bridge which is typically packed with bikers, tourists and locals was practically ours alone for the day. And the grey skies just made the pink of the dress pop even more in the photos. We did get caught in some heavy rain at points but it just added to the adventure of the day and I wouldn’t change a thing!
