City Hall wedding: Kelsey + Eddie

city hall elopement

What a fun weekend!  Kelsey & Eddie split up their nuptials into 2 days…getting married at City Hall with just their closest family on a Friday, then having a a party the next day with extended family and friends at Rockwood Music Hall.  I love when couples do things at their own pace, in their own way!

From the photographer:
Over and over again I am impressed with couples doing their wedding the way they want to. It is such an important day and so often we get bogged down by expectations as opposed to knowing ourselves and building our day around just that. Kelsey and Eddie split their wedding up into two lovely days in December. They invited just their immediate family and myself to the civil clerk’s office on Friday to have their civil ceremony. There we all experienced the cultural phenomenon that is the Manhattan Civil Clerk’s Office. There were brides everywhere you looked, tons of photographers, pregnant bellies, flowers, and so much celebration. It was awesome.  Kelsey and Eddie got married in a bright pink room with only their closest family members present. Afterward we ventured around the area and to the Brooklyn Bridge where everyone who walked by shouted something. We got “Congrats!” “You look beautiful!” and our mutual favorite “Is this real, is this a real wedding, or are you models?!” I know every couple wants to hear that they look like models on their wedding day, which these two totally did.  Afterward the couple made time for an In Bed Session, which is a series I have been working on in the last few months. We went to The Ludlow Hotel and they jumped on the bed in excitement of being able to now call each other husband and wife. They cuddled, kissed, and then we said farewell for the night.  On Saturday we all got dressed up again to celebrate with their extended family and friends at Rockwood Music Hall, where Eddie works. They had live music, amazing food, tons of dancing, and Eddie even played a song he wrote for Kelsey. It was a perfect weekend celebration for K & E and NYC gave the perfect backdrop.

Real wedding in Brooklyn: Kate + Michael

cala lily bouquet

I’ve always wanted to see what a wedding at one of my favorite restaurants, Gran Electrica, would look like!  Kate and Michael really did their backyard up with lovely minimal papel picado flags and let the outdoors do what they do best.

From the bride:

Four and a half years ago we walked into a birthday party in Brooklyn for a man named Andrew.

I went with a friend not knowing anyone but her, not even the birthday boy. Michael had come for the birthday boy. We ended up sitting next to each other, once we started talking we didn’t stop until the end of the party. At that time, I had no idea this would be the man I would want to spend the rest of my life with.

Unfortunately, Michael lived 2 hours away, so the spark we had did not reignite until a year and a half later when after a compliment on social media led us to begin dating. On our third date we ended up going away for a weekend together in upstate to visit the same friend who’s party where we had met…and fell completely in love with each other.

We still lived 2 hours away from one another but Michael would drive to Brooklyn nearly every weekend for 2 years. We finally decided enough was enough, we needed more then weekends, so a year ago we moved in together in the Hudson Valley.

Within 6 months Michael had proposed to me and before we started looking for a venue we knew Brooklyn was the spot. Whenever anyone says New York, people automatically think of Manhattan. Not me, BROOKLYN is my heart and soul. So marrying the man I love in the city I love was a must. Being that Brooklyn bridge park is one if my favorite spots I knew having the ceremony there would be perfect. After that all we wanted was a big party, and Gran Electrica was the place to have it. They have the best back yard in NYC, along with amazing food.

People danced from the moment we arrived until they had to kick us out. It was a true celebration of Love, friends and family.

Real wedding: Grace + Alex

hand lettered wedding invitation

The inspiration for my wedding was in line with my style that’s minimalistic with a touch of something special. For example, my all over lace wedding dress was simple yet its long train gave it more of a personality and drama. My accessories were simple yet with a twist like my pearl Dior Tribal Earrings; Pearls are so classic yet the asymmetric design created a bold effect. My simple Miu Miu strap sandals were classic yet with a twist with all over gold glitter. The colors were blush, gold, with neutrals.

My bridesmaids and I made the bouquets, boutonnieres, center pieces, garlands, place cards, cake topper, and wedding favors. I was not happy with the colors of the flowers because they were not what we thought we had ordered but I think we made it work (shout out to Jane Wynings at Wholefoods though, she was super helpful)! One of my best friends Grace Song who is super talented also designed our beautiful invitations, programs, and menus! I say we touched every part of the wedding with our special touches!

I think the most vivid memories from the wedding day was when I was walking down the aisle with my dad that day. I felt so overwhelmed at the thought of being married first of all to this perfect man I had thought I would never meet, but being surrounded by friends and family who love us witnessing this beautiful moment was overwhelmingly wonderful. The day turned out to be beautiful, it had rained that morning so the sky was clear, the sun was warm, the breeze felt so soft, and it was just a picture perfect day.
